Our individuals with a dual diagnosis of Intellectual or Developmental Disability and Mental Illness receive services from different professionals. Therefore, an interdisciplinary approach is essential to provide services to our individuals. The team members are highly involved in the life of an individual. The team also consists of experts from medical or psychiatric fields either in person or in consultation with team members in addressing the individual’s medial and psychiatric issues respectively.
Interdisciplinary team members not only have their expertise but also have their commitment to the individual served at all times. Besides the professionals, the involvement of other members such as family, guardian or advocate for the individual is very significant in the interdisciplinary team meeting. Goals are established in the team meeting for the individual. Such goals would be measurable goals with specific time-frame for monitoring, changing and meeting the goals. Individual’s goals generally address natural supports in the community.
