ACIDD Maryland currently provides Supported Employment to individuals with a dual diagnosis of Intellectual or Developmental Disability and co-occurring Mental Illness. ACIDD also provides a separate Mental Health Vocational Program (MHVP) leading to Supported Employment to people with severe and persistent mental illness who do not have a developmental disability. Supported Employment prepares our individuals for employment in the community, both supported and competitive in the job market. Competitive employment in the community is based on individual preferences, with high level of ongoing supports. Job development, job placement, and retention services provide assistance to a few individuals not eligible for supported employment.

Our individuals that receive SE services from among individuals with Developmental Disability are diagnosed with Developmental Disability and Co-occurring Mental Illness. They constitute about 35% of people with developmental disabilities. They require a unique wrap around services system in which supported employment is only one element of the support system.

Supported Employment for these individuals provides them with specific services such as vocational training, job development, job placement, intensive job skills training, follow-up services, besides social skills training, and other supported services including natural supports in the community. Some individuals prefer to be in Community Learning services prior to entering the Supported Employment program.

If an individual qualifies for the DDA approved supported employment program service, please contact the Intake Coordinator at ACIDD Maryland for further details.
